Past Weekend’s Events
This past weekend the Michigan Tech football team played their last game of the season against rival Northern Michigan University. The Huskies took on the Wildcats in the annual battle for the Miner’s Cup. The Huskies won the game 21-18, bringing the Miner’s Cup home to Houghton for the next year.
For seniors graduating this December, the next couple of weeks are going to be especially busy as they prepare to take final exams, go through commencement, and begin the process of transitioning to a full-time job or graduate program.
Midyear Commencement will take place Saturday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Development Complex (SDC) Wood Gym (students must arrive no later than 9:45 a.m.). Graduating seniors can pick up their honor cords, caps, and gowns from the Campus Bookstore in the Memorial Union Building. Graduating students are asked to attend a commencement rehearsal in the SDC Wood Gym on Friday, December 9, at 1:30 p.m. The rehearsal is expected to last an hour and students do not need to bring their caps and gowns.
The commencement speaker for the 2011 Midyear Commencement ceremony is Chang Park, entrepreneur, philanthropist, social activist, and visionary. He is the president and CEO of Universal Remote Control Inc., headquartered in Harrison, New York, a world leader in technology, innovation, and quality.
There will be two receptions for graduating students to attend with their families. On Friday, December 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the President’s Reception for Graduates, hosted by President and Mrs. Glenn Mroz, will be held in the Memorial Union Ballroom. Business attire is requested.
Immediately following Commencement, the Michigan Tech Alumni Association will hold a graduate reception in the SDC Multi-Purpose Room. This is a great place for new Michigan Tech alumni to network and learn about alumni benefits and services.
Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments, or suggestions you may have! I hope you enjoy spending Fall Break with your student. I will be taking next week off to spend time with my family.
